Client
Finn Church Aid is a faith- and rights-based humanitarian and development organization that supports vulnerable, fragile, and disaster-affected communities in Kenya.
It operates as an independent country office of Finn Church Aid, which is Finland's largest international aid organization. FCA Kenya began its operations in the country in 2014.
Context
In 2023, Finn Church Aid was rolling out a new livelihoods program in Kenya. Following a labour market survey, FCA identified the Creative Economies as a critical new opportunity and frontier for livelihoods programming.
To leverage this opportunity, FCA initiated the Creative Industry Program with the support of key partners and funders. The Program was designed to help underprivileged youth, women and refugees develop critical competencies for success in creative careers.
The Project Brief
To initiate the Creative Industries Program in Kenya, FCA ran a year-long skills development project based in Nairobi. My brief was to design and execute 2 Learning Experiences targeting underprivileged youth primarily from informal Nairobi's informal settlements. The Learning Experiences were aimed at equipping them with necessary foundational knowledge about the careers in the creative economy, and entry-level technical skills in graphic design.
